July 23 TAMIL: BLACK JULY 

On this day, I remember with my Tamil friends and neighbours, the thousands of Tamil people who were killed, injured, or displaced in the tragic pogroms in July 1983. I join with all of those mourning their family, friends, and neighbors lost during the conflict in Sri Lanka and during Black July.

Canada acknowledges the people of Sri Lanka, who are suffering during this current economic and political crisis and strongly encourages Sri Lanka’s government to promote democracy and human rights and maintain the rule of law.

We are grateful for the Sri Lankans who have made Canada their home and contribute to the richness of our diversity.
