Tamil Heritage Month & National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack

Thank you, Mister Speaker.

As the month of January comes to an end, I want to take a moment to acknowledge Tamil Heritage Month.  I had the pleasure of visiting the Hindu Temple in my riding to celebrate Thai Pongal. I want to thank the President of the Senior Tamil's centre of Richmond Hill, Pari Srikanthan, for inviting me to this celebration and Henry Soosipilai for accompanying me.  Keeping the theme of “Tamilicous: tamils and food,” we celebrated Thai Pongal

We honour the vibrant and invaluable contributions Tamil Canadians have made to our country.  We recognize that Tamils faced discrimination and persecution, and many came to Canada to escape this; we must be vigilant in fighting against any forms of discrimination and hate in Canada

Today, the ‘National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia’ is a day that reminds us of this.  Let’s celebrate a Canada where every individual, regardless of their background, feels that they belong and let us all fight discrimination and hate to keep Canada the inclusive and welcoming nation we are proud to call home.

Thank you, Mister Speaker.
