“Our government is concerned about the ongoing spill situation at the Kearl Oil Sands Mine. We recently adopted a motion to study this at the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee, and have heard testimony from First Nations and Metis who speak to the clear lack of trust in the way the leak was communicated. I recently attended a protest in solidarity with indigenous peoples ahead of the testimony of executives from Imperial Oil, the company that runs the Kearl site. I want to reiterate our government’s commitment to reconciliation and to protecting our environment, which is why we tabled a motion to recall Imperial Oil and the Alberta Energy Regulator in the fall to committee to hear about their progress in repairing this situation and ensuring it is not repeated.”
