Nunavut Day is an annual celebration that commemorates the creation of the Canadian territory of Nunavut in 1993. Nunavut, which means "Our Land" in the Inuktitut language, is a vast northern territory that covers over one-fifth of Canada's landmass and is home to a diverse population of Inuit, First Nations, and other Canadians. Nunavut has a consensus government system, which blends the principles of parliamentary democracy with Inuit values of cooperation, egalitarianism and communal decision-making.

Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) continues to renew the nation-to-nation, Inuit-Crown, government-to-government relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis; modernize Government of Canada structures to enable Indigenous peoples to build capacity and support their vision of self-determination and lead the Government of Canada's work in the North.

Nunavut Day is an opportunity to celebrate the unique culture and heritage of Nunavut, as well as the contributions the territory has made to Canada as a whole.
